Yesterday evening was “Manhattanhenge.” As every year, the Sun could be seen to set between the skyscrapers on either side of the long straight streets, and thousands of people were out to watch.
Then the Sun sets farther north till the solstice, June 21, and then the sunset point slides south again so that geometry will happen again, on July 12.
Similarly framed setting and rising Suns happen in any city that has any straight street pointing toward anywhere on the horizon where the Sun can at some time in the year rise or set.

The largest sun I ever saw was on a street in El Monte , California. The sun was about to set and was as wide as the 4 lane road I was on. Breathtaking.
Very nice, copied it to a New Jersian who labors in Gotham.
