This is the sky a little later into the night–
– as shown in the August page of Astronomical Calendar 2016. It’s the sky that might be seen by the folk now at the annual convention of the Astronomical League, at Arlington, Virginia, near Washington.
There may still be Perseid meteors to be seen, though the peak of the shower was in the night between Aug. 11 and 12.
It seems very clever to show the invisible earth’s shadow (antipodal to the sun) as a powerful celestial orientation & cartographic reference.
