The short rise of Monmouth Street is dominated by the church tower, which looks as if by falling it would exactly fill the street.

I had to walk up here on several successive Thursday evenings at the same time. On the first, forty or fifty gulls formed a circular parliament above the church tower. On the second Thursday, which happened to be March 1 with the sky a little brighter: no gulls but a nearly full moon.

You know better than to turn left up Church Street—that's the way you glided into town! So, back around to the right. Or possibly across the road to visit the church.
