The performers on July 22, 2004, were to have been the Divertimento Piano Trio with Erik Smith at the piano; but he died shortly before, and his friends made up a group called the Axe Vale String Quartet and played a concert in his memory, including this minuet and trio in B flat major. He worked for the Philips recording company and persuaded them to let him produce the whole of Mozart's work, of all kinds. He did it in time for the 1991 bicentenary of Mozart's death; it filled a hundred and eighty CDs. Where Erik encountered fragments, such as this, left unfinished among Mozart's notes, he completed them in Mozart's style.
