The character of the place surviveslittle town down by the sea, come upon suddenly out of the high green countrybecause no fool has yet built villas and hotels and industrial parks in the overlooking high green country. (From the last inland village to Dragon's Hill you have passed scarcely a building.) However, what could happen is shown by what has happened: the twentieth century began to reach up the hill, and you have to cruise down through a half-mile approach that is admittedly suburban.
