Here is the evening sky for tomorrow, June 29.

In the west, inner planets go down along with the Sun. In the east, outer giants climb into view, along with the “Teapot” shape of Sagittarius. Sagittarius and Scorpius, the two brilliant constellations of the southernmost stretch of the ecliptic, dominate the summer midnight sky. Rightward from them we show Libra, little Corvus, Leo, and Gemini.

Tomorrow evening I’ll be on Mount Tamalpais with my astronomy club. The weather is forecast to be clear, dry, and breezy. Ganymede will pop out of Jupiter’s shadow in bright twilight at 9:02 pm PDT. After the sky gets dark we’ll have hours to journey through the Milky Way. Should be a good night.
