It’s supposed to be doubly unlucky because the day and the number are unlucky. It’s said that in South America the unlucky day is Tuesday; that in Italy the unlucky number is 17; and that in In Iran women stay outdoors on the 13th day of the year to avoid bad luck.
Friday the 13th occurs every year, most commonly just once. It can occur twice, as in 2020, 2023, and 2024. This happens in 42, 43, or 44 years per century.
Or 3 times: in 14 or 15 years per century. This happens in common years beginning with Thursday, such as 1981, 1987, 1998, 2009, 2015, and 2026, when, occurring in February, Friday must also occur in March. Or, most rarely of all, leap-years beginning with Sunday, such as 1984, 2012, 2040, 2068, 2096, 2108.
